On Watermarking

I’ve decided to start watermarking  my photos here with the blog URL. Mainly it’s because my buddy Z. at work scanned through this blog and asked me if I took the photos. I said yah. He said he didn’t know since they looked “professional” and he thought I might have lifted them from somewhere else on the internoodle and used them here. Obviously, anybody can add their own watermark if they want to any image, so I know it doesn’t make that much of a difference. But yeah, I take the photos posted here.

Also, I fucking hate HUGE watermarks that disrupt an entire image. I can see if it’s something that is an actual commodity-like if it’s work that puts food on somebodies table, whether they’re an actual hot shit photographer who captures iconic images, or whether they’re just creating some truly epic shit using GIMP or Photoshop. But if it’s just Joe Bob Assneck taking pictures of his cat or his cousin, then why, in the name of Zoroaster, put a fucking watermark that takes up afull 1/3 of the image? I mean, what the fuck. What are you posting, a picture or JOE BOB ASSNECK PHOTOGRAPHY with some shit going on in the background? And anyways, do you really want fucking credit for putting another picture of a cat or a kid with pie on their face on the internet?

I should make it clear though, I’m not watermarking my shit from here on out to make a big deal of it. I just take pictures of stuff for fun. I don’t consider myself a photographer or anything, I just figure I’ll add my URL to the images I shoot and post here in the way that if your friend gives you a mix tape it’s usually labeled something so you know where it came from. If this all smacks of too much pretense please tell me and I’ll cut it out with the watermarking.

You’re doing it wrogn.

It’s ok to be unobtrusive. Really, it is.
