Uncomplimicated Editing With GIMP: More Shots From Erie
Here’s some other photos I’ve taken in the past few weeks. Sort of also runs, originally…but now I have a desktop with GIMP loaded, so I got to edit them with a stock installation of the program, no additional scripts or anything. I fucking love GIMP. I’ve used it for about seven years and prefer it even over Photoshop.
Most of the stuff is just simple adjustments. Simple rules of thumb. The brightness goes down, the contrast goes up. Punch the saturation up, tweak the curves adjustment to bring out relief and then back it out if it looks too silly and like I’m seeing it on four hits of mescaline. I think in this day an age when anybody can “trick out” an image via an automagical script or filter, it’s kind of interesting to take a step back and fiddle with basic brightness, contrast and saturation levels while also using the simple levels and curves tools. Given, the one I posterized and layed a light video distortion grid over, but all in all it was just basics that came out of the GIMP box from the door. Sure, I probably fucked up already mediocre images, but I had fun. Thats like, what its supposed to be about right?
